Dodici by van Esch
27/01/2010 [netherlands] [hall] [permalink]

Dodici has been designed for twelve coats, Dodici is cool, Dodici is made of metal, Dodici is hard-wearing and strong. Coat stand Dodici, a design by the English designer James Irvine, is a heavyweight; figuratively speaking that is. Due to the sophisticated design the metal coatstand is stable and highly suitable for heavy use. And that is surprising as the twelve hooks seem to have been folded like cardboard. The name of the design refers to the number of hooks: dodici is Italian for twelve. The coat stand is available in several colours.

Chitchat by Teun Fleskens
19/01/2010 [netherlands] [outdoor] [permalink]

Waiting in public spaces always could be more fun. With that goal was designed the CHITCHAT. A swinging seat from multiplex or polyester for one to seven people. If you take a seat, you bring the furniture and everyone who is sitting on it in motion. This almost always leads to interaction. It has something surprising and you get to talk about it to your neighbour. Strangers are searching together for the best balance. The ice breaks, the atmosphere improves and the waiting is less boring. The 'rocking trees' in the middle provide a playful effect, especially with more CHITCHATS in one space.

Lili Lite is a reading light, a bookmark and a bookshelf combined into one smart product. A sensor turns off the light when an open book is placed on the shelf. When the book is picked up again, the light automatically turns on. Lili Lite also has a switch to turn the light on and off manually. Lili Lite is a witty design that combines function and style in a simple but ingenious way. Lili Lite is designed by Studio Smeets Design in Amsterdam

Olivier by Montis
30/08/2009 [netherlands] [livingroom] [permalink]

An swivel chair with a design of a cut open fruit. Olivier is a classic Montis swivel easy chair designed by Gijs Papavoine. Swivel chairs have tended to be out of fashion in the top design category in recent years on account of the design limitations that this particular type of chair imposes. Olivier is a new design to this traditional item of furniture. The design principle may be compared with that of a cut open fruit. Olivier provides exceptional comfort with its top quality, soft filling-material, which envelops the human frame. The shell-shape also permits a wide range of sitting positions, from formal postures to 'curling up'. Ottoman - together with the beautiful ottoman on a swivel base Olivier turns into an extremely relaxing easy chair.

Why would only humans make use of eco-friendly technology? Studio OOOMS designed a birdhouse with a solar panel on it’s roof. During the day sunlight feeds the solar panel, charging a small battery inside. At sunset the transparent stick will light up and shed a tiny light on your garden.

Lamp Bundle by Yksi
08/02/2009 [netherlands] [lighting] [permalink]

The lamp Bundle was designed by Leonne Cuppen in 1992. At the time she was asked to design a product made of standard materials. The idea was to avoid having to start new production processes and to create new ideas with existing materials. The 15 bulbs of each 15 watt are bundled together by a rubber muff.

Bloom my Buddy
02/02/2009 [netherlands] [decoration] [permalink]

A project by Niels van Eijk and Miriam van der Lubbe for Dutch flowers and plants.

It's a boy or a girl. Or an it - whatever suits you best. And as brand new type of vase it's open to suggestions. Will it be haute couture in a flowery dress, seductiveness with roses so red, sheer envy with hauntingly green chystanthemums or an agry look with thorny branches? Bloom by buddy is the easy type: fun to play with, free to create your wildest dreams and an ideal spokesperson for your moods and grooves. It looks at you as if to say: Go on, express yourself.

Ceci by Sander Mulder
29/01/2009 [netherlands] [lighting] [permalink]

A broken bulb can not function, or can it ... ?

This lamp plays with the stereotypes of our daily lives which are imprinted in our minds. By clever use of a high power led, lamp becomes shade, and the impossible becomes possible.

The bulb is hand-blown from heat resistant Pyrex glass, safe to the touch with no sharp edges. Numbered and signed by the designer, limited edition.

Clock by Christiaan Postma
17/01/2009 [netherlands] [accessories] [permalink]

The starting point with this project was a personal study about form & time. Christiaan Postma put together more than 150 individual clockworks and made them work together to become one clock. He shows the progress of time by letting the numbers be written in words by the clockworks. Reading clockwise, the time being is visible through a word and readable by the completeness of the word, 12 words from "one" to "twelve". The size of the clock is 1,4 by 1,4 meter.

In April the "clock" has been exhibited at Spazio Rossana Orlandi during the Milan Furniture Fair 2008.

The word "three" completely appears when it's exactly 3 o'clock and will then transform again as time passes. The word "four" begins to appear and at exactly 4 o'clock the word "four" is clearly visible. The word "three" is by then totally vanished and no longer readable.
